Black Sabbath es un grupo británico de heavy metal formado en 1967 en Birmingham (Inglaterra). Fue compuesto inicialmente por Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler y Bill Ward.
El amplio legado que dejó Black Sabbath hacia la ruptura a finales de la década del 70, no ha pasado desapercibido. Tanto así que bandas de la talla de Motörhead, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Pantera, Megadeth, Slipknot, Slayer y Metallica, principalmente, comentan haber tomado ese heavy oscuro, opresivo, duro y que a todas luces, ya desligaba de sus contemporáneos. Sus composiciones que entornaban atmósferas siniestras y demoníacas, anuncios apocalípticos, hicieron que Black Sabbath quedara relevado a un segundo plano ante la masiva popularidad de sus contemporáneos Led Zeppelin o Deep Purple. Pero el legado del Metal Sabbath ejercieron un poderoso magisterio sobre la mayoría de artistas y grupos en las subsiguientes décadas (Iron Maiden y Judas Priest en mayor grado), al tiempo que aportaba características que se convertirían en definitorias del heavy metal. Evidencia de ello son los covers de estas últimas.
